IAAF.org: Kastor takes New York 10km win

Sunday 13 June 2004

Deena Kastor set a course record of 31:44 seconds in winning the Circle of

Friends Mini 10 kilometres road race in New York (yesterday).

Kastor (nee Drossin), USA Marathon record holder (2:21:16) who is building

up to her bid for the Olympic crown this summer, went into the lead just after

the first mile and held on to secure an impressive victory in one of the

strongest domestic fields ever assembled.

She finished 54 seconds ahead of Kate ONeill, with her Athens Olympic

Marathon squad partners Jen Rhines (32:28) and Colleen De Reuck (32:50) close

behind.
