New IAAF World Rankings feature – Bekele Top Performer of the Month for

May Tuesday 8 June 2004 Monte Carlo, Monaco - Kenenisa Bekele is the first ever

IAAF World Rankings Performer of the Month after his record run in Hengelo.

This new feature of the IAAF World Rankings starts this month and will

honour the best athletes in various categories. At the end of each month a male

and a female athlete will be chosen based on their Performance Scores, and the

athlete with the highest Performance Score will be the “Top Performer of

the Month”. Also, best performances will be noted for track, field, road

running, race walking and junior athletes in both the male and female

categories.

The first month to see the new addition to the Rankings is May, when the

outdoor season truly began in Europe and the United States. Interestingly

enough, the month started with the top female performance and ended with the

top male performance for the inaugural listings.
